Welcome to Emsworth...

A historic harbour village

At the turn of the last century, Emsworth was at the centre of a thriving oyster business.
This was until the oysters killed the Bishop of Winchester and several guests at a banquet in 1902! There are plans to restart this industry.

You will be spoilt for choice by the variety of pubs and restaurants. Emsworth has been the scene of the largest independent food festival in the UK until 2007 when it was deemed too successful and replaced with quarterly smaller events.

Acclaimed author P.G. Wodehouse lived in Emsworth and used many of its local characters and places as inspiration for his famous novels

A thriving high street

Emsworth is also famous for its many owner-run retailers and was placed in the Top 6 towns in the UK for its independent nature. We are fortunate to have independent outfitters, general stores, butchers, fishmonger and greengrocers in our village centre.

With its prolific fishing background, Emsworth had 30 pubs to serve the fishermen! we now have eight - not bad for a population of 9,300.

Emsworth is now more famous as a sailing base with two busy sailing clubs.

Emsworth is famous for its two large tidal mill ponds (Slipper Mill Pond and Emsworth Mill Pond). These are protected conservation areas and act as a crucial habitat for migrating birds and local wildlife.
